BEGINNER-FRIENDLY DIY GUIDE

Holiday display inspiration from the FunAcrylic Christmas house collection.

There is something special about a Christmas decoration you painted yourself.

Whether you love classic red and evergreen or soft winter colors, a miniature wooden house makes a creative holiday project. This guide shows you how to prepare the pieces, choose a palette, paint neatly, and arrange your finished decorations.

The photos show several different FunAcrylic house designs to illustrate the techniques. They are not a continuous photo record of one house being made. Check the instructions for your chosen kit, as the parts and assembly order can differ.

✦ YOUR CHRISTMAS CRAFT PLAN

01 Prepare the pieces ✦ 02 Pick your colors ✦ 03 Paint & detail ✦ 04 Dry & display

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Gather Your Christmas Craft Supplies

Keep your work surface protected and arrange everything within reach:

  • Unfinished wooden Christmas house pieces and their assembly instructions
  • Wood-compatible acrylic craft paint or acrylic paint markers
  • Medium brush for broad areas; fine brush for windows and trim
  • Paint palette, clean water, cloth, and a work-surface cover
  • Optional compatible clear finish for indoor decorative projects

Check your selected product variation for included items; supplies differ across kits.

01

THE FIRST STEP

Prepare & Test-Fit the Pieces

Lay the wooden parts out on a clean surface. Find the roof, walls, tabs, and decorative pieces. Before painting, gently test-fit the structure so you understand how it comes together. Never force tight joints.

Some designs are easier to paint flat before final assembly. Others need to be partly assembled first. Follow the instructions provided with your exact kit.

✦ PICK A HOLIDAY MOOD

02 · Choose Your Christmas Colors

Use one roof color, one wall color, and one accent. Repeat a trim color across several houses to make a little village feel connected.

Classic Christmas

Burgundy · Pine · Cream

Winter Cottage

Dusty Blue · Snow · Taupe

Woodland Holiday

Sage · Brown · Ivory

03

BRING THE HOUSE TO LIFE

Paint the Roof, Walls & Trim

Start with the broad roof and wall sections. Paint in thin, even coats, working toward the edges rather than loading on a thick layer. Allow a coat to dry before adding more color. Keep tabs and slots as free from buildup as possible.

Little Workshop Tip: A flat wooden panel is often easier to paint before assembly, but only when the design's construction allows it.

Once the base colors are dry, use a fine brush or paint marker for windows, doors, and cut-out decorations. A little white along roof edges can suggest snow. Paint carefully around decorative cutouts rather than covering them with thick coats.

04

THE FINAL TOUCH

Dry, Assemble & Admire

Allow the paint to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions. When the surface no longer transfers color, finish assembling the house as directed by your kit. If a painted joint feels tight, stop and check the connection rather than forcing it.

For indoor display, an optional finish may help protect decorative paint, but check compatibility and test an inconspicuous spot first. It does not automatically make the craft waterproof or suitable for outdoor exposure.

Make a Merry Little Village

ONE HOUSE, MANY POSSIBILITIES

Give each house a different personality while repeating one or two colors. Try a snowy cream roof, a forest-green front door, or a warm red accent to tie the display together.

Arrange completed houses on a stable shelf or table with small pinecones, paper stars, and battery-powered decorative lights nearby. Keep wooden crafts away from candles, direct heat, and open flames.

CHRISTMAS CRAFT QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

What paint should I use for wooden Christmas houses?

Water-based acrylic craft paints and suitable acrylic paint markers are common choices. Check the product instructions and test a small area first.

Is it better to paint before or after assembly?

Test-fit the structure first. Paint flat pieces before final assembly if the design allows; otherwise, follow the kit's specific instructions.

How long does the paint take to dry?

Drying depends on paint type, coat thickness, and room conditions. Follow your paint manufacturer's guidance before handling or joining pieces.

Can children make these Christmas houses?

Check the selected kit's age guidance and supervise as needed. Small parts, paint, and craft tools may not suit every age group.
